        The Atkins diet program is based on the principle of switching your body to burn fat instead of </p>

<p>carbohydrates to obtain energy. It is a life change rather than a diet program, as in order to keep the pounds off you need to stick to the recommended way of eating.</p>

<p>The main difference to other diet programs is in what you are allowed to eat ie eggs, meat including beef, pork, turkey, chicken, duck, wild game, veal &amp; lamb also fish such as shellfish. Fats are also permitted ie butter, olive </p>

<p>oil &amp; mayonnaise, certain cheeses are also permitted.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
&#13;</p>
<p>You must drink lots of water, only de-caffinated coffee &amp; will need to take vitamin supplements including minerals. </p>

&#13;</p>
<p>You must also exercise every day, no need to do a marathon however, a brisk walk will suffice. You are encouraged to eat enough to satisfy your appetite but you must not overeat.</p>

<p>You must not drink alcohol. You must not cheat; it takes 2-3 days for the body to switch from burning carbohydrates (in the form of glucose) to burning fat, so if you cheat you are back to day 1.</p>

<p>Sugar in any form, corn syrup, honey or maple syrup.<br />&#13;<br />

Pound chicken between two pieces of waxed paper, then season it with salt and pepper. Heat the oil in a skillet and add the chicken, cook it until it&#8217;s done. Cook the onions and mushrooms until they are soft, and sauté in wine for about two minutes. Add some broth as liquid is needed. Cover the chicken with the sauce. This will serve four, and has only 3 g of carbohydrates with 336 total calories</p>

<p>Some South Beach diet recipes take us to the Far East. It&#8217;s time for some chicken salad from Thailand. This one calls for a pound of chicken breasts sliced thinly, Napa cabbage, other vegetables, and Thailand fish sauce. It&#8217;s very simple to make – mix together the salad ingredients, mix together dressing ingredients, then toss them together. It makes four servings and has 8 g of carbohydrates in 297 total calories. It really looks delicious.</p>

<p>Would you like to go south of the border with South Beach diet recipes? Oddly, fajitas can include soy sauce according to one Mexican cook. Take two pounds of beef or chicken, then use soy sauce, an onion, two peppers, chili powder and wine juice. Combine all the liquid ingredients, added to the meat strips to marinade for about 30 minutes. Brown the meat then cook the vegetables for a short time. Talk about low calorie and carb – 307 and 4.5 grams respectively.</p>

<p><i>Answer by spookychick2007</i><br/>When I am trying to lose weight, I cut my calories to 1500/day, switch to whole grains, eat beans, nuts, and soy for protein, and step up my fruits &#038; veggies.  I also get half an hour of cardio every day and half an hour of strength training six days a week.  This plan allows me to lose about 2-2 1/2 lbs per week.  Hope this helps.</p>
